Winter is a wondrous time of year full of festivity, new beginnings, and snow! The 6 Best Design Tips for a Simple Barn Wedding

The 6 Best Design Tips for a Simple Barn Wedding

We were recently inspired by one of the manifestos for Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Market about their mission to bring life and love into the home.
“Of all heroic pursuits large or small, we believe there may be none greater than a life well loved.” – Magnolia Manifesto
We think it's also the perfect manifesto for a simple barn wedding and the start of your life as a new couple! Using this manifesto and Joanna Gaines' aesthetic as our guide we are sharing 6 design tips to create a wedding reception that exudes life and love in a modern farm aesthetic. simple barn wedding
The key to creating a wedding reception fit for any Joanna Gaines fan is to create a space that feels lived in and personal.

6 design tips for a simple barn wedding reception:

  1. The color palette should include neutral colors like: gray, white, pale pink, tan, or soft yellow.
  2. Use greenery as your accent color and accessorize the space with wooden decor, like these wooden heart confetti.
  3. Your dinnerware and glasses should be traditional and again go for a clean neutral color here. For another pop of color on your neutral table you can consider using copper and bronze utensils and decor.
  4. Mason jars. Mason Jars everywhere. You can use them everywhere from the dinner table, to centerpieces, to the guestbook table and more. They are cheap and handy in a lot of ways.
  5. Borrow or purchase mix-n-match wood furniture for the chairs and reception tables. As we mentioned above, the key to this aesthetic is making it feel "lived in".
  6. Have fun personalizing your reception tables with chalkboard elements.

Wedding Theme: Alice in Wonderland Wedding

Wedding Theme: Alice in Wonderland Wedding

DIY Alice in Wonderland Tea Party Wedding Ideas Photo Credit: Shoot It Photography styled by From the Wilde Products A great way to infuse your wedding with playfulness is to let your design be inspired by a theme. Of course, you want to avoid your wedding theme causing a look of an 8 year old's birthday party, but done right, a wedding theme can lead to some of the most spectacular wedding styles. Today we are looking at the classic and whimsical tale of Alice in Wonderland. This story may not be a romantic story, but it's magical whimsy really captures the feeling that is falling in love! For this wedding theme, we encourage brides to be INSPIRED versus directly pulling exact images from the classic tale.

What do we mean by this?

  • Dress your bridesmaids in pretty light blue dresses, but not an Alice costume with headband and all.
  • Your flower girl could wear a light pink striped dress to infer to the Cheshire cat, but no need to have Cheshire grins floating in the trees.
  • Have the groom's wardrobe include a classic pocket-watch (bonus points if it's a family heirloom), but nothing over-sized and goofy.
  • Playing cards would be great place cards, but there is no need to make them look like they can walk off the table on their own.
  • Splattered red white roses can be fun, but perhaps not as the centerpiece of every table and definitely NOT over-sized.
Another good idea would be to include subtle accessories that hint at the world of Alice in Wonderland without being from the story at all.

Below are a few products from our shop that would make a great addition to your Alice in Wonderland Wedding.

Bride to Be! Molly of Luminaire Images When we say fun - we mean FUN! Bridal showers are a perfect example of how you can either feel more stressed or more like you are enjoying being engaged. SO if you are thinking about trying to have an out of the box bridal shower, take a look at these three tips!

How to Make it FUN

Consider Co-ed

A great way to inject a more playful vibe is to open up the guest list to both men and women. This is especially nice because it means the groom get's to participate. Plus, it creates opportunities for more game ideas that are bound to get some laughs. There's just something about having both genders in attendance that makes people more competitive come game time!  Also, can you imagine the silliness that will ensue when you dad is the one being wrapped in his toilet paper wedding dress?

Think of YOU

Loving this Harry Potter-themed bridal shower Greg Obierek Photography If you want to have a fun bridal shower, then make the bridal shower about things you like. If you want a super formal bridal shower, that's great. But if you want people laughing and a little activity running around, infusing your unique interests into the PARTY can make it AMAZING. For example, if you and your fiance are avid football fans, take your bridal shower outdoors and actually play football! Serve burgers and hot dogs, and just enjoy the sweaty fun. Or if you don't have an active group attending, just go all out with a fun theme that inspires everything from decor to games to food. You're a Harry Potter nerd? Why not serve butter beer and have a magical time?

Let it go!

Can we PLEASE do "Pin the lips on Ryan Reynolds"? lol - 10 unique bridal shower ideas that bring the fun factor! - Wedding Party Connie Whitlock Photo Weddings and all the surrounding planning and sub events can be so so stressful. Add a Little Embroidery in Your Wedding

Wedding Bird Embroidery by Pixiecraft Handmade, via Flickr

An Embroidery Wedding

Embroidery. It can be something done over the top and artsy or can be really delicate and just lovely. Either way, we at wedding collectibles are kind of falling in love with embroidery on your wedding day. If your like what? That stuff on my grandmother's pillow? That can't be pretty at a wedding. Let's just say - and we mean this in the nicest way possible - you are just dead wrong. Take a look. You won't be disappointed!

The Wedding Dress

Meadow Bustier Wedding Gown... women boho by jadadreaming on Etsy Even with the embroidery on this dress being more traditional in style and patch worked ,it looks like it is exactly the way it was meant to be. You could actually probably do something similar with your bridal handkerchief. With this style, it would be easy to include a little something old, borrowed, new and even blue! One thing we love, is while the embroidery definitely makes this dress different, it doesn't overpower the dress and it is still very bridal. For example, this dress was posted in the Jadadreaming etsy shop, whose designer Jada, makes custom pieces. If you like this dress, her work might just be the perfect fit for you! A Splash of Colour | the Embellishment Bridal Fashion Trend Next, the embroidery in this gown flows so perfectly, the dress just wouldn't exist without it. Again, a gown with embroidery like this really just adds a little personality and beauty. It is like the cherry on top to a gown that says, "I am getting married. I am in love." This gown was the jewel of a western-inspired wedding featured on bride.com and is a Needle and Thread gown from Net-A-Porter.

The Wedding Cake

65 Loveliest Lavender Wedding Ideas You Will Love | http://www.deerpearlflowers.com/65-loveliest-lavender-wedding-ideas-you-will-love/ A lace and embroidery styled wedding cake isn't a brand new idea, but it is a pretty one. What's great is it opens the door to having a very traditional wedding cake without it being the traditional all white. #Mexican #Embroidery #WeddingCake Another great opportunity embroidery offers is bringing in a touch of culture - like this Mexican inspired embroidery cake from Sweet Art Cakes.

The Groom

The bride isn't the only one that can create an embroidery wedding look! Ayumi Embroidery Works makes this particular bow tie.

The Decor

Even if you don’t like embroidering, you can still take embroidery hoops and use them for cool wedding decor. Attach lace to them and hang... Embroidery hoop table number - Melbourne Wedding from Milk Photography Even if you don’t like embroidering, you can still take embroidery hoops and use them for cool wedding decor. Attach lace to them and hang... A lot of blogs suggest an embroidery wedding as part of a boho wedding theme, which we are sure works great, but it isn't the only style it works for. In fact, with the large variety of styles open, embroidery really can be infused into any wedding! Whether its a backdrop or table numbers, a touch of embroidery can really add some whimsy.

Kind of like it captures the idea of wish...

How to Avoid the Overdone Wedding Trend

Avoiding the Overdone Wedding Trend Just like there are blogs -like ours- that share wedding ideas, hoping to inspire new brides to create and enjoy their dream wedding, there are also those that hate on every wedding trend that has every existed. Like every one. Sure, trends change. Some can be "overdone" and other's end up not being functional and need to change.

What to do when your Dream Wedding Ends up on a Wedding Trend Don't List

Who the EFF cares what "they" think?! Whether it is friends or a blogger on GQ, what matters most when it comes to planning your wedding is what you like and what you want your wedding to look like. For example, if you want to use mason jars as part of your centerpieces or have a photo booth with props for your guests to take pictures, then go for it! Don't let your best friend tell you she thinks mason jars are sooooo over and definitely don't let a blogger talk you out of it. (Though, Jessie Mooney does bring up a good point in her blog 9 Trends Wedding Planners Hate as Much as You Do that photo booths can create a bottle neck. Instead of nixing them completely, maybe make a plan on how to avoid the problem!).

Ask yourself these three questions:

  1. What do you want your wedding to be like? Pin the pins, create your vision boards, read the bridal magazines and determine what your want.
  2. Why do you want it to be that way? Then decide where your motivation comes from. Is it because you think it is beautiful or fun? Or is it because you are determined to be in style and on trend? If it is the latter, than having your wedding plans touted as being out dated matters. If it is because it is what you love, then others not liking it doesn't really matter.
  3. Will it work? Is it functional? If yes, roll with it. If not, then maybe rethink the idea!
Trends change and you are probably planning on only having one wedding, so you might as well do what it is that you like. So how do you avoid over done wedding trends? By not caring what people that aren't you think!

How to Develop a Wedding Theme or Style

How to Develop a Wedding Theme or Style

It may seem kind of self serving to say, but wedding accessories are very important when it comes to fully developing your wedding theme or style. If all of your accessories are a mish-mash of what you borrowed from other people, your wedding may begin to look a little mish-mashed. Of course, if you are looking to create a more eclectic style, then by all means, go for it; it is a great way to save money. Otherwise, you are going to want your wedding accessories to be hand picked, just for you and your wedding dream.  When developing your wedding theme and style, there are four areas of your wedding that your accessories are essential: The bride, the ceremony, the table centerpieces, and the cake. Whether you are on a budget or not, these or the four sections of your wedding that you want to pay extra attention to.
  1. The Bride  1920s Inspired Knoxville Wedding Let's face it. When people go to a wedding the first thing they want to look at is the bride. Not to objectify her, but she is the center-stone to the whole event. The bride and her dress. Your choice of wedding dress will heavily influence the tone of the wedding. For example, if you choose to wear a ballroom gown, but are having a bohemian theme, the two styles will clash. Then, you have to decide on how to do your hair and what bridal accessories to wear. These accessories will make or break your wedding look.
  2. The Ceremony  1920s Inspired Knoxville Wedding There are of course a lot of different aspects of the wedding ceremony that are going to affect your wedding theme or style. The location is of course key, but it is often what you do with that location that is going to really establish you in your ceremony. And really, there are a lot more wedding accessories that go into the wedding ceremony than many people realize, many of which depend on what traditions you are upholding. For example, you may need to decide on a unity candle, SAND JAR, flower baskets, or a  ring pillow.
  3. Reception Centerpieces  1920s Inspired Knoxville Wedding In terms of reception decor, the centerpieces are going to be HUGE in establishing your theme or style. Taking the 1920's Inspired wedding that is featured on the Ruffled blog as an example, this bride's centerpiece is very simple, but the long stemmed vases and the mod styled center mat evoke that 1920's feel more than if she had just a regular rounded vase and a plain white table clothe. The center mat is probably what gives the 1920's vibe the most and is even reminiscent of the great american novel based in the 20's, The Great Gatsby. So, as you prioritize your reception decoration budget, be sure to pay attention to your centerpieces with what flowers, vases, candles, table numbers, place settings, and any other unique ornaments you wish to use.
  4. The Cake Vintage Romance Sonoma Wedding The cake stands as one of the focal points of pretty much any reception and you are adhering to the tradition of cutting the cake, then you know it will end up at center stage, making the cake's design and accessories very important. Cake accessories that you will be choosing from will mainly be cake toppers, but may also include flowers. Wedding cake toppers are a great opportunity to establish your wedding theme, and as the cute bunny toppers in the photo above demonstrate, do not need to be completely traditional. Really, there are cake toppers made to work with almost any wedding theme and style. The wedding cake topper you choose is often reflective of your couple personality too and is one of the few wedding decorations that not only symbolize your love, but can also last beyond the wedding as a keepsake.

Love is in the Air: Using Heart Symbolism

Love is in the Air <3

The heart shape being associated and used to represent love -more particularly romantic love- starting in the 15th century and became popular by the 16th century. Now the concept of love and deep emotion cannot really be separated from the heart shape. The heart is the symbol of love. Wedding Collectibles Double Heart Cake Top With weddings being all about love, it is more than likely that a heart or two will show up in your wedding decor and accessories. Using heart symbols at your wedding is an effortless way to bring in romance, butterfly feelings, and googly-eye gazing into your wedding. My Love Stylized Heart Cake Topper With your wedding cake topper being at one of the keystones of wedding traditions, a heart cake topper can be a perfect way to showcase that heart symbolism. The above cake toppers both feature ceramic hearts, but say forever in different ways. The first, "Double Heart Cake Top" features two hearts that almost seem to meld together at their foundation and stand together side by side. This can be representative of the two hearts being united, and becoming one - if not in entity, then in foundation or purpose. The second, "My Love Stylized Heart Cake Topper", features a single heart but with knotted at its base. The knot, like the heart, is a long time symbol of love and marriage, but it is more specifically a symbol of trust, unity, and strength. While their variations are slight, each will help create a tone that will be unique to your wedding. Wedding Collectibles Interlocking Heart Flutes Other wedding accessories such as toasting glasses, guest books, candle holders, and wedding cake serving sets are opportunities to add that little heart touch and take advantage of the symbolism that comes with the heart. Wedding Collectibles Crystal Heart Ribbon Wedding Guestbook and Pen Set One of the great things about using a heart theme or heart decor is that you really are not restricted to pinks and reds. The rosier tones may be expected, but that may even be to your advantage and make your wedding stand out when you use a hearts theme without the typical heart colors.

3 Easy Ways to Create a Frog Prince Wedding

A Frog Prince Wedding

A Frog Prince Wedding

What is the Story of The Frog Prince and Why is it Perfect for a Wedding? The story of The Frog Prince has be told and retold for many generations creating many versions that all end the same "Happily Ever After". No matter which version the general story includes a prince that is turned into a frog by some evil character, whether it be out of jealousy or punishment for his judgmental or harsh behavior, and he must find a princess that will love him and kiss him (and in some cases as specific as eating off a plate sleeping in her bed for a designated number of days). The story line is quite similar to Disney's Beauty and the Beast and is revamped in Disney's Princess and the Frog. This truly is a perfect love story to feature or theme your wedding after if you feel your relationship has transformed each other. Often, when we are in love with the right person, that person will not force us to change or be something we are not, but somehow they will make us want to be better. If you wear read lipstick and plant some red lips on his cheek it could make a cute pic that keeps with the theme! 2. Venue Avanti Fountain Place This theme would work great with an outdoor venue, preferably one with a water feature. Like with any theme, you do not have to be literal in every aspect, but having an outdoor venue with water present, will help create the atmosphere that is The Frog Prince.  3. Accessorize Your Wedding Princess Bride Kissing Frog Prince Figurine The Frog Prince wedding theme is going to be popular enough that you will be able to find on theme unique wedding accessories that will help you add that extra touch.
