Review: Wedding Wire's Color Palette Generator

Picking your wedding colors can be a daunting task, so when we find something that might make that a little bit easier for our brides, we want to share it! Wedding Wire ( an Wedding Planning sight with access to vendors, inspiration, and planning tools) has recently come out with a color palette generator. How exciting is that?

How to Use It

The tool is super easy. You start by clicking on if you want spring, summer, fall or winter colors. They even have cute little icons to go with it. With summer coming up, we chose summer.   Step two takes you to four primary color options. This is the base or main color for your wedding. Whether you use this tool or not, we recommend choosing a base color and one or two accent colors. This will help you create a cohesive look.   After you select your primary color the tool will then prompt you to create an account in order to see your generated color palettes. This is pretty typical of free tools like this and it 100% doesn't hurt. Your already planning your wedding, might as well get access to other planning tools to help you along the way. Once you make your account, the tool will take you to six color combo options. This is when you pick your favorite to act as the jumping point for your whole wedding look!   We selected the navy, mint, and coral combo. And that's it. The generator give you the option to print your color palette, but otherwise you're done! Unless you want to start over and start again!

What We Think About It

The generator is still in it's beta stage. This is encouraging because while we LOVE the concept and the ease of the tool, but there is something left to be desired in the color options. However, we do believe that even the basic options can be a good launch to hone your vision. Since Wedding Wire also features wedding inspirations, we also think it would be great if they linked in wedding inspirations in your chosen color palette. This way you can see it really come to life. It may be the direction they plan to go, but it does seem like it could be tricky to make a reality. Overall, we think the tool is a fun idea and are hopeful!

Do you think a Color Palette Generator could be helpful for your wedding planning?

Wedding Theme: Alice in Wonderland Wedding

Wedding Theme: Alice in Wonderland Wedding

DIY Alice in Wonderland Tea Party Wedding Ideas Photo Credit: Shoot It Photography styled by From the Wilde Products A great way to infuse your wedding with playfulness is to let your design be inspired by a theme. Of course, you want to avoid your wedding theme causing a look of an 8 year old's birthday party, but done right, a wedding theme can lead to some of the most spectacular wedding styles. Today we are looking at the classic and whimsical tale of Alice in Wonderland. This story may not be a romantic story, but it's magical whimsy really captures the feeling that is falling in love! For this wedding theme, we encourage brides to be INSPIRED versus directly pulling exact images from the classic tale.

What do we mean by this?

  • Dress your bridesmaids in pretty light blue dresses, but not an Alice costume with headband and all.
  • Your flower girl could wear a light pink striped dress to infer to the Cheshire cat, but no need to have Cheshire grins floating in the trees.
  • Have the groom's wardrobe include a classic pocket-watch (bonus points if it's a family heirloom), but nothing over-sized and goofy.
  • Playing cards would be great place cards, but there is no need to make them look like they can walk off the table on their own.
  • Splattered red white roses can be fun, but perhaps not as the centerpiece of every table and definitely NOT over-sized.
Another good idea would be to include subtle accessories that hint at the world of Alice in Wonderland without being from the story at all.

Below are a few products from our shop that would make a great addition to your Alice in Wonderland Wedding.

A Photo Booth as a Guest Book

Wedding Photo BoothA wedding photo booth is perfect for your fun and flirty wedding! Photo booths are a great way to encourage your guests to document their memories for you on your special day. Many brides and grooms will even use a photo booth in lieu of a guestbook!

How it works:

A photographer with a Polaroid camera snaps a picture of your guests as they come in or throughout the night in front of your backdrop. Then, your guests sign their picture and slip it in a photo album or hang it on a clothes line display!

Why people love it:

It really is a great way to capture who was at your wedding; keeping the name to the face of that distant relative that you don't know too well. Plus, guests have the opportunity to have some fun with it, making the picture silly or more personal than their name scribbled down in a book. Add in some props and your guests will not be able to help but have fun with it!

The Best Summer Wedding Colors

When it comes to styling and decorating your wedding, one of the first decisions you are going to need to make is to choose your wedding colors. Summer can sometimes be a bit of a tricky season to pick wedding colors for, especially if you prefer a darker tone ( burgundy, dark brown, navy, etc), but the key to summer wedding colors seems to be finding a balance. In other words, choose a color scheme that will have a solid foundation - like a deep blue or purple - with a pop of something bright - like orange or teal - followed by something light - like pale yellow or sky blue. For summer, it is less about having a specific color that is the best for summer, but having the perfect color balance. If you are planning a summer wedding, then you should take a look at these color schemes that are sure to capture the romance of summer. Summer Wedding Colors Colors: Magenta, Beige, Lime, Maroon This is a great color palette for any warm summer night wedding. It has a great base with the maroon that is lighted up by a wedding color basic, beige, and brightened up with the pizzazz of magenta and lime. In this particular color scheme, depending on what tone of lime you choose, the lime also acts as a cool and light color. The overall effect is warm, inviting, with a touch of excitement - a.k.a romantic. Summer wedding colors Colors: Succulent Green, Scarlet Red, Lavender The constant for this color scheme is the warm succulent or moss green. The punch of red adds a heavier tone that is warm, powerful, and even passionate, while the lavender adds a sense of whimsy or summer breeze. Bright Summer Wedding Colors Colors: Magenta, Antique White, Tangerine, Aqua. We love this color scheme from theknot.com for a seaside summer wedding. The antique white acts as a perfect back drop to the color pops of magenta, tangerine, and aqua. The key with working with this many bright colors is to use them in your wedding accessories as accents (To find great summer and beach themed accessories, follow the link here). For example, as pictured above the table cloth is done in the white versus it being in the bright aqua. This lets each bright color shine and add its flavor without being overwhelming and without competing with one another. Gold Summer Wedding Colors: Mint, Baby Pink, Gold, Fuchsia Instead of having a dark color as your base, try using  multiple soft colors like the mint and baby pink to set the stage for your dominant fuchsia. The warm gold adds warmth and really helps bring the colors together, rather than the bright colors just jumping off the page. Plus, glitter and shimmer is always a great for a summer wedding. How to Deal with Summer Heat on your Wedding Day

Summer brings in wedding season, sunshine, and blue skies - as well as heat, sweat, smeared make up, and bad tempers. If you are having a gorgeous, outdoor summer wedding, you may be worried about how you are going to make it through in your floor length ball gown or how your grandma will do sitting in the sun so long. Here are 10 quick tips for  surviving the heat on your wedding day: Summer Wedding Dress 1) Wear a slip to take tulle off legs and skin No matter what kind of wedding dress you are wearing, even if it is strapless, chances are it is going to be hot. There are just so many layers, and layers that cling. It might seem counterproductive to add another layer to your onsomble, but by wearing a silk or light weight slip underneath you can keep the tulle - major heat maker - off your legs and from clinging to your skin. 2) Get ready and dressed in a cold room - keep that AC going! Have you ever gone from a freezing room and then out into 100 degree weather and felt: "awww that feels nice"? Well, that is the goal here. If you get ready in a cold room it will make it so it takes longer for the heat to take it's toll. Plus, it will give your make up a chance to set and encourage a good attitude and feeling beautiful (think trying to get your skinny jeans on in a hot humid room versus during winter when everything is nice and cool). 3) Make sure any car or transportation is completely cooled before you get in. This is a similar concept as getting ready in a cool room with the added detail of avoiding irritation if the car is crammed and not giving your make up the opportunity to sweat off before you even reach your summer ceremony. 4) Keep some blotting papers ready to help your face stay matte On your wedding day, you are going to sweat and chances are your face is going to get shiny - and I don't mean the bridal glow. The best and easiest way to handle this is stocking up on some blotting papers. Perhaps have your maid of honor carry them for you, or keep them in your bridal purse. 5) Use Primers and Waterproof Mascara While we are talking about make up, another tip to help it survive the heat is to use primers for you face and eyelids and then also use a waterproof mascara. Waterproof mascara has improved leaps and bounds, so you don't need to worry about it being flaky. 6) Provide accessories that will help keep guests cool Now, to look beyond the bride. Provide cute little umbrellas or fans is a great way to help your guests enjoy the ceremony and not complain about the heat. To take things cuter, you can create a fan program. There are a lot of great DIY templates available and it will create a cute keepsake, rather than a crumpled make shift fan. 7) Schedule your ceremony for the late afternoon or early evening and reception at night. This may seem simple, but...well...it is. This is a great option to avoid the heat if you don't mind planning around that burning sun. If you are having an outdoor wedding it may be well worth it to schedule it so that you don't have to worry about getting sunburnt or anyone getting hit stroke. Plus there are very few times of year that are more romantic than summer nights.  8) Have a portion indoors If you don't want to plan the time around the sun, than perhaps just plan the where around the sun. This way you and you guests are not outside in the heat of the day for the entire celebration. Having that beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by and indoor reception may be that perfect compromise. Plus, if your venue allows it, you could still have some outdoor options at the reception, but have the primary party inside. 9) Keep the Ceremony Brief If you are determined to have an outdoor ceremony, try keeping it short (like 20 mins) to avoid having to stand -and your guests sit- in the harsh sunlight for a long period of time. 10) Serve cold water and keep the wedding party hydrated Really, this should almost be number one. When it comes to summer hit, it is not just discomfort that is a concern. There is a very real safety issue: heat stroke. So be sure to have lots of water available and keep yourself, your wedding party, and your guests plenty hydrated.

A Get Away Destination Hawaii Wedding - Melissa & Cameron

745A9983

Meet newlyweds Melissa and Cameron. Melissa and Cameron met when they were just in the 3rd grade and became fast friends. Time and school quickly parted them, but by age 16 they were in each other's lives again and they quickly fell in love (though, as Melissa reports, Cameron wouldn't kiss her until 9 months after they were dating). Both Melissa and Cameron live life with adventure in their heart. Cameron is in the Navy and Melissa is currently pursuing her passions in aviation, fitness and make up design. With their adventurous spirits there was no question that their wedding would be full of love, adventure, and that little feeling you get right before you leap.

Planning the Wedding On a Tight Budget

After they got engaged, stress set in. Melissa had always dreamed of her wedding, but what wasn't a part of  that dream was the anxiety that set in. "We had only three months to put it together. We had a pretty small budget. $3000. Also, my father-in-law promised us a honeymoon somewhere. After about a month of stressing over how to pay for things like: locations, photography, flowers, invitations, announcements, cake, food, entertainment, etc. I text my soon-to-be saying why don’t we get married in Hawaii and spend the rest of our honeymoon there. And so we did!"

That $3,000  covered their airfare, minister, marriage certificate fees, her wedding dress, photographer, cake, and flowers.

How Did They Do It?

They got married on a beach in Oahu and used the wedding planning service, Hawaiian Barefoot Weddings , which according to Melissa, was one of the best decisions they made. Hawaiian Barefoot Weddings took care of the beach permit, photographs, cake, marriage certificate, and supplied the family with fresh flower leis. Then, they were blessed with a family that was supportive and parents who covered their rental car, hotel, and reception dinner.

Everything was close knit.

Melissa and Cameron truly wanted to focus their wedding on them. They wanted to only have immediate family present, an outdoor and Christian based ceremony.

Papering the Bride

Melissa got ready with her mom and two of her little sisters in her hotel room. She was only a little bit (20 minutes) late.

Wedding Ceremony

Her father, David, walked her down the sandy shore aisle.

Walking down the Aisle He most definitely got teary eyed, and Melissa could not contain her excitement upon seeing her groom.

Wedding Ceremony

Who could not have a greater look of joy on his face.Wedding Ceremony

Saying "I Do!" surrounded by family and the sounds of waves meeting the shore.
Wedding Ceremony   Vibrant flower petals encircled the bride and groom.

Wedding Ceremony DecorationsleisAnd as part of the Hawaiian beach ceremony, they handed out leis!

Cameron's brothers were his groomsmen (dressed in Hawaiian shirts) and Melissa's sisters were her bridesmaids (dressed in mint). Melissa's father walked her down the aisle, sharing in that sweet moment of passing his daughter over to her new husband. The mothers were tearing up and everyone was smiling. This was a marriage that they had known was in the works for years.

Wedding Party Full of Family

"Things that people remember about our wedding are: the white sandy beach, the sunset, the fresh flower leis, the bubbly, the coconut cake and the strawberry shortcake, and the turtles that joined us at the end of the ceremony. Things that I will remember are: the minister and his wife, who coordinated the entire ceremony, the beautiful way that the sky met the waves of the ocean, the sunset, and above all seeing my soon-to-be husband standing among our closest relatives waiting to take my hand."

Special Little Details and Accessories

Though Melissa wasn't worried about having her wedding be traditional, she did decide to adhere to the tradition of having something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Something NewWedding Jewlery

For her something old, she attached a heart pendant that belonged to her mother-in-law's grandmother to her wedding garter. Then for her something new,  she wore  a silver bracelet gifted to her by her mother for her birthday just a few months before the wedding. Her something borrowed was really rather creative. On the morning before the ceremony her and her husband went for a walk on the beach and picked up a single white stone from the sand. Borrowing the stone from the ocean, she hid it in her bouquet for the ceremony. At the end of their honeymoon she returned it by tossing it back out to sea. Then finally, as her something blue she wore blue crystal earrings. Wedding Bouquet Another little detail for her wedding that was particularly special was her gorgeous bouquet made by her husband's grandmother. It was a waterfall bouquet of white Lilies, hints of green leafs, and subtle small crystal accents at the center of each flower. The something extra these crystals added is simple proof of what a bouquet accessory (or really any wedding accessory) can do to make each wedding detail special. It is obvious from her photographs that Melissa was a glowingly happy Bride. When asked what her advice would be to Brides, particularly those that are on a tight budget, she said "Go with the flow and stay true to yourselves...In the end there are a few key things that will make your wedding perfect. Make those things happen and let the rest be." weddingques3 Be sure to submit your dream wedding to be featured!

Musts for a Beach Themed Wedding

Musts for a Beach Themed WeddingWhy a Beach Wedding is an Affordable Option

Summer is just around the corner, and if you are living in sunny California, it may even feel like summer now! If you are newly engaged and planning for a Summer wedding, you may be considering a romantic wedding on the beach. Even though the beach wedding style is often considered laid back and relaxed, there is still a lot of planning and careful touches from how to do your hair for that beach humidity to keeping those centerpieces from looking like a tourist shop ( unless that is the way you want to go!) that you will need to pay attention too. Here are some items to help you keep your beach wedding theme cohesive, classy, and full of that summer love'n! 1. Lets start with you!

Wedding Collectibles - Aqua Bead Foot Jewelry

When a lot of brides dream up a beach wedding they think of effortless curls, soft flowing bridal gowns, and their bare feet in the sand. Now, think back to the last time you were at the beach. What did you feet look like at the end of the day?? Not exactly the cleanest look? There are three things we would like to suggest for your barefoot wedding plans. First, get a a pedicure! Might as well start with your absolute best foot forward and start off with clean, manicured toes. Second, have wet wipes available . This way after the ceremony and before your reception you can wipe down your feet. This would be particularly important if you do not have a lot of time in-between the ceremony and reception.IMPORTANT: Don't wipe you feet down and then stick them directly back into the sand: You need to wait till they are completely dry again or else you will just have sand stuck to your feet! And lastly, bare feet does not necessarily mean you feet must be 100% bare. In other words, accessorize with some bling! Foot jewelry works wonderfully with a beach themed wedding because it adds to that easy beauty and almost bohemian tone that the soft waves and sand invite. The foot jewelry pictured above, our "Pearl and Rhinestone", or our "Shell" foot jewelry would be a perfect addition to your beach wedding. 2. For the Ceremony: Wedding Collectibles - Beautiful Mother of Pearl Shell Ring Pillow You won't need too much beach decor if you are having your wedding ceremony at the beach because ....welll...what more do you need than the rolling waves, soft sands, and sunset in the background? What you can do is use beach themed items for the ceremony. For example you can have sea shells or smooth rocks line your aisle way instead of flower petals and starfish will always add a unique and romantic touch. Also, you can add a seaside touch to the traditional items in a ceremony such as the ring bearer pillow, the unity candle, or for the sand pouring. 3. At the Reception: Wedding Collectibles - Tropical Breeze Cake Topper There are going to be a lot of ways to incorporate your seaside wedding theme at your wedding reception, but one that you really cant skip on is the wedding cake and wedding cake topper. If you have a beach theme running throughout and then you have a plain Jane wedding cake with a traditional wedding cake topper it will have the similar look as if someone wore a business suit to go to enjoy the beach. Plus, a beach theme provides you with a fun opportunity to get creative with your wedding cake topper.
