Wedding Theme: Alice in Wonderland WeddingPhoto Credit: Shoot It Photography styled by From the Wilde Products A great way to infuse your wedding with playfulness is to let your design be inspired by a theme. Of course, you want to avoid your wedding theme causing a look of an 8 year old's birthday party, but done right, a wedding theme can lead to some of the most spectacular wedding styles. Today we are looking at the classic and whimsical tale of Alice in Wonderland. This story may not be a romantic story, but it's magical whimsy really captures the feeling that is falling in love! For this wedding theme, we encourage brides to be INSPIRED versus directly pulling exact images from the classic tale.
What do we mean by this?
- Dress your bridesmaids in pretty light blue dresses, but not an Alice costume with headband and all.
- Your flower girl could wear a light pink striped dress to infer to the Cheshire cat, but no need to have Cheshire grins floating in the trees.
- Have the groom's wardrobe include a classic pocket-watch (bonus points if it's a family heirloom), but nothing over-sized and goofy.
- Playing cards would be great place cards, but there is no need to make them look like they can walk off the table on their own.
- Splattered red white roses can be fun, but perhaps not as the centerpiece of every table and definitely NOT over-sized.
Below are a few products from our shop that would make a great addition to your Alice in Wonderland Wedding.[gallery size="medium" ids="7496,7495,7494,7493,7490,7489,7488,7486,7485,7482,7484,7491" orderby="rand"]

An Embroidery WeddingEmbroidery. It can be something done over the top and artsy or can be really delicate and just lovely. Either way, we at wedding collectibles are kind of falling in love with embroidery on your wedding day. If your like what? That stuff on my grandmother's pillow? That can't be pretty at a wedding. Let's just say - and we mean this in the nicest way possible - you are just dead wrong. Take a look. You won't be disappointed!
The Wedding DressEven with the embroidery on this dress being more traditional in style and patch worked ,it looks like it is exactly the way it was meant to be. You could actually probably do something similar with your bridal handkerchief. With this style, it would be easy to include a little something old, borrowed, new and even blue! One thing we love, is while the embroidery definitely makes this dress different, it doesn't overpower the dress and it is still very bridal. For example, this dress was posted in the Jadadreaming etsy shop, whose designer Jada, makes custom pieces. If you like this dress, her work might just be the perfect fit for you! Next, the embroidery in this gown flows so perfectly, the dress just wouldn't exist without it. Again, a gown with embroidery like this really just adds a little personality and beauty. It is like the cherry on top to a gown that says, "I am getting married. I am in love." This gown was the jewel of a western-inspired wedding featured on bride.com and is a Needle and Thread gown from Net-A-Porter.
The Wedding CakeA lace and embroidery styled wedding cake isn't a brand new idea, but it is a pretty one. What's great is it opens the door to having a very traditional wedding cake without it being the traditional all white. Another great opportunity embroidery offers is bringing in a touch of culture - like this Mexican inspired embroidery cake from Sweet Art Cakes.
The GroomThe bride isn't the only one that can create an embroidery wedding look! Ayumi Embroidery Works makes this particular bow tie.
The DecorA lot of blogs suggest an embroidery wedding as part of a boho wedding theme, which we are sure works great, but it isn't the only style it works for. In fact, with the large variety of styles open, embroidery really can be infused into any wedding! Whether its a backdrop or table numbers, a touch of embroidery can really add some whimsy.
Kind of like it captures the idea of wish...
Wedding Banner Trends Tons of couples are utilizing banners, bunting, and garland in engagement photos, wedding photos, and even as decor at the ceremony and reception. Basically it is everywhere! It works wonderfully over or around gift tables, sign in tables, and highlighting your wedding cake. It can also be used at bridal showers and bachelorette parties as a quick and easy way to create a lot of color and decor at your party site. Basically, the stuff can go everywhere! So, what is it? Banners: This is the big category that so many other things (including bunting) fit into. These are exactly what you think they are. They are signs or flags that hang over entrances, tables, across walls, etc. Bunting: This is a type of banner. These are those hanging triangle flags that are often seen at sporting events, carnivals, and vintage styled weddings. Garland:This a different than a banner in that it won't say anything and won't be draping material or anything like that. Garland, instead, is a string of or wreath of flowers, leaves, or other object-like materials. DIY Flower Garland A cute trend that is popping up is using paper flower decor and paper flower garland at weddings and bridal showers. Here is a simple step by step tutorial on how to make a paper flower. 1) Gather Materials:
- Sheets of book paper (or construction, card stock, scrap-booking, or basically any kind of paper)
- lead pencil
- paint colors of your choice
- water cup
- paint brush
- hot-glue gun and glue.

Easy as ABC Monogram Wedding Cake Toppers
A lot of couples are going for the monogram cake topper in order to create and individualized and contemporary look. The variations for this style include doing the first initial of the bride and groom ( T & S or T+S), simply having the Initial of the last name of the newly married couple (as in if your last name is Pearson, then your would have a elegant and decorative P), or having the bride and groom initials in a smaller font on each side of the initial for their last name in the larger font (like the cake topper in the image above) . What is fun about the monogram cake topper is that it is both simple and easily adaptable to any wedding theme. Take our Flower and Pearly Accented Monogram Cake Topper for example. This porcelain cake topper can not only be customized for the coloring of its pearl accent, but you can also find this same sleek font and fine porcelain design with a starfish and shell accent with our Beach Themed Porcelain Monogram Cake Topper. Both of these monogram cake toppers are elegant, fresh, and contemporary in design and offer that subtle accent that connects it beautifully with your wedding theme.
If you choose to forgo an accented monogram, the cake topper will still blend seamlessly with your wedding decor. The monogram cake topper opens up doors to a whole new cake topper world with endless choices for fonts, color, material, and accents. If you are a bride that likes the glitter of rhinestones and jewels. There is a monogram cake topper for that. If you are a bride that has always been a fan of the etched glass design, we have those too!
Similar to the basic monogram topper is the monograms cousin, the Mr. and Mrs. cake topper. These cake toppers can simply be Mr. and Mrs., can be customized with your last name, or can have the full name of the bride and groom. Have fun as you decide what cake topper route to take because the cake topper you choose is sure to become a family keepsake.
